Valentino Rossi is keen to check the direction Yamaha is taking with a new chassis he received at the Catalunya MotoGP test and will run it at the Assen round this weekend to compare it against the older version.
Both Rossi and Movistar Yamaha team-mate Maverick Vinales evaluated a brace of frames over two days in Spain after a disastrous weekend saw them pick up just 14 points in total as a low-grip track and hot temperatures conspired against the M1 as it did at Jerez a few weeks ago.
“During the test we have tried some interesting solutions and now I want to try them at another track to see if were going in the right direction. The Netherlands is always a great weekend, because the Assen circuit is very nice. I hope to be competitive in Assen because I would like to make it a good race,” said The Doctor.
Rossi has stated he doesn’t want to return to the 2016 frame which is working well for Tech3’s Johann Zarco and Jonas Folger, and would rather go forwards with a new version which combines the good points of both.
