Silverstone BSB: Stapleford takes last lap Supersport pole

Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford grabbed Motorpoint British Supersport pole with the chequered flag out, going six tenths beneath the previous fastest ever lap.

Stapleford needs just two points to wrap up the championship this afternoon but isn’t playing it safe, after ending just 0.4 of a second adrift of Sam Lowes’ World Supersport lap record.

His effort is even more impressive when you take into account he jumped off the JG Speedfit Kawasaki and moments later onto his Profile Triumph, yet still lapped quicker than ever before.

Irwin held provisional pole for the majority of the session after setting the fastest ever Supersport lap of 2’08.754, and it appeared as if he was going to hold on to pole before Stapleford snatched it from him.

Traction Control’s James Rispoli also went under the 2’09 barrier, ending up 0.072 of a second behind Irwin in third place.

Sam Hornsey will front the second row of the grid after jumping ahead of Kyle Ryde and Jake Dixon with his final lap. The second row of the grid is covered by eight hundredths of a second.

Appleyard Macadam’s Danny Webb heads the third row of the grid after setting his fastest lap of the weekend with his last lap.

Webb is joined on the third row by Joe Francis, once again sitting in for the injured Andy Reid, and Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson.
