Snetterton BSB test: ‘Difficult’ test for title favourite Byrne

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne brushed off a crash at yesterday’s Snetterton MCE British Superbike test and made some good setup progress with the Panigale despite having a ‘difficult’ time at the Norfolk track.

Byrne got back from holiday in time for the final session on Wednesday and then got down to some serious laps in the opening two periods yesterday despite crashing after having to avoid Dan Linfoot at Murray’s and ending up in the gravel.

The four-time champion is finding the Panigale has to be tweaked and fettled quite seriously in between circuits in order to keep it in a good setting window, so the bumps at Knockhill could also prove interesting for the Paul Bird team.

“After I got off the plane yesterday I did a session as it was bone dry. It was a difficult test to be honest. The bike was not quite as easy as I anticipated it being around here but we made great progress in the two sessions,” said Byrne, speaking yesterday.

“I had an altercation with another rider and flicked myself off by my Alpinestars airbag suit did its job. We are back to being there or thereabouts so big thanks to the team.”
