John Surtees has again been recognised by the British establishment and awarded a CBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours.
Surtees is the only man to win both the Motorcycle Grand Prix World title, twice in 1956 and 1960, and the F1 title which he took in 1964 with Ferrari.
Surtees was handed an MBE in 1959 and then an OBE in 2008. The CBE is one step short of the knighthood that has been the subject of many campaigns over recent years.
Many civil servants awarded themselves knighthoods this year for services to paper shuffling, instigating of red tape and generally slowing everything down to a crawl in order to justify their extortionate salaries. God bless ‘em.
