Thruxton BSB: Good tyre grip the key for Iddon

Bennetts Suzuki's Christian Iddon heads up the third row going in to the opening MCE British Superbike race at Thruxton tomorrow, and even set the second fastest time in Q2 this afternoon.

The former World Superbike rider has been on the pace all weekend, and has benefitted from added grip from the tyres on his GSX-R. During the last few rounds braking has proved a tad problematic for the Stockport lad, but because of the fast and flowing nature of the Hampshire track it suits the bike, and Iddon looked at ease today.

"I am enjoying riding it and I love bring on it, which helps. Around here there is not many breaking points, and that is one area that we have been working on," said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com, from the track.

"The key around here is having good grip and keeping it, and that is what we are continuing to work on. We are working quite hard on the ability to race, so if we can keep the grip and make it work with the team then we are in a good place."

But the news surrounding the team has been focused more off track than on, with the story that team manager Jack Valentine is no longer part of the setup, but Iddon is not concentrating on matters away from the track, and is working well with his crew, with the aim of bagging some serious points tomorrow.

"The Suzuki is in a good place, there has been a lot of news about Jack and that is to do with the management - I am just focused on my job and my crew, and so has Josh. We are looking for a setup that can run for a longer period of time.

"I feel comfortable on that bike and I am going sideways too much, and I don't need to be - it looks cool but it isn't fast but the way to go quicker was to slower the bike down, and carry the speed."
