Thruxton BSB: O'Halloran back on the podium after second place finish

Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran finished the second MCE British Superbike race at Thruxton on the second step of the rostrum, after maintaining a solid pace to end the day with an extra 20 points.

The Australian could not quite catch up with the eventual race two winner, Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty but he was able to hold on to second and keep Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin at bay.

In the opening race, O’Halloran finished in sixth and struggled with tyre wear in both races. But he was pleased with the changes his team made to the Fireblade in-between races and changing his riding style in race two certainly helped him clinch second place today.

“To get 20 points today in race two is a really good feeling and is great for the Showdown for what we want to do. Thanks to Honda Racing we made a small change in between the races and it really helped me and I changed my riding style a little bit and I tried to maintain the pace instead of pushing for an outright lap time,” said O’Halloran at the circuit.

“I felt the middle part of the race I had the same speed as Michael and Leon and I was in third and I could not quite get passed them on the brakes and on the last two laps I was hanging on for dear life and the tyre was gone again. But I am absolutely over the moon - really pleased with the result. I was gutted after race one to end up where I did, so onwards and upwards.”
