‘We can spring some surprises in Thailand,’ says Ducati’s Davies

Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies believes that he can spring some surprises at the next WorldSBK round in Thailand as the team now knows they have run the wrong setup for the past two seasons and results have been hard to come by.

Buriram has been a bogey circuit for Davies with Phillip Island not much better but now the Welshman has taken two second places in Australia, he thinks they are now capable of running at the front and netting another big points haul, which is how the Welshman wants to play the long game in 2017.

“We can take the knowledge that for the past two years, we have had completely the wrong setup for Thailand with what we now know about the bike. It’s always felt like riding on eggshells so I am interested to turn up this year and see how it feels,” said Davies, speaking at Phillip Island.

“It has definitely been one of the tracks that is a struggle for us. Not just the speed but the chassis too has also been tricky. Our bike is very different now and is working well so I think Ducati could spring a couple of surprises there.”

The Australian track is another one that has frustrated Davies before but a brace of second places has kept the Welshman happy.

“When you look at the full picture, this is a really positive result. It would be easy to be disappointed because we barely missed two wins, but historically this has never been a favorite circuit for me and sometimes I lost precious points here, so two second places are a good building block for the rest of the season.”
