2019 North West: Superbike race two cancelled

Today’s final Superbike race at the 2019 North West 200 was cancelled when a combination of falling rain, fading light and descending mist meant organisers had little option other than to bring the day’s proceedings to a close just after 7.15pm.

Despite the difficult conditions throughout the day, Mervyn Whyte and his team managed to run four of the scheduled five races with the meeting’s seven races in total seeing seven different winners.

“We didn’t have much luck during the early part of the day when we faced very challenging conditions but the teams, competitors and fans all stayed with us and we turned things around,” said event director Mervyn Whyte.

“We have decided in the interests of safety to bring the proceedings to a close now because the conditions have deteriorated once again. It is disappointing but I want to pay tribute to everyone who has supported us today and braved the weather to cheer on the riders as they put on a fantastic spectacle.”
