Donington BSB: OMG Yamaha lock out FP2

It was a Rich Energy OMG Yamaha team effort at Donington Park for FP2 as Bradley Ray bested Kyle Ryde in Friday’s final BSB practice.

FS-3 Kawasaki’s Lee Jackson completed the top three with Jason O’Halloran and Rory Skinner completing the fastest five for the leading two manufacturers.

The battle for the Superpicks top 12 kicked off on Friday afternoon with Ryde in charge thanks to his morning 1’05.820 new lap record before his OMG teammate Ray bettered almost instantly with a 1’05.497 to take the lead and the record with his first flyer of the final session. Rain threatening in all sectors as the pack returned to the pits in the opening minutes.

VisionTrack’s Leon Haslam and MCE Ducati’s Tom Sykes holding the gateway positions to promotion just adrift of the top ten.

A brief foray on track for a couple of riders in the final ten minutes resulted in an immediate return to pitlane once again with conditions unfavourable for the majority. Josh Brookes circulating the second MCE machine on mid 1’07 pace with Ryde, Suzuki’s Christian iddon and BWM’s Danny Buchan also venturing on track in the final five minutes.

A crash for Haslam at Craners brought out the red flag with 2’34 left on the clock with the Kawasaki rider sent to the medical centre for checks. The session restarted at the close of the hour for a frantic finale on a now dry track.

O’Halloran was the first to improve on the McAMS Yamaha on his way to fourth with a 1’06.124. Ray and Ryde taking the chequered flag at the top of the times. Glenn Irwin improving his time to consolidate sixth with Danny Kent claiming eighth on his final effort aboard the Buildbase Suzuki. The fallen Haslam salvaging his place in the top 12 with Buchan and Sykes just adrift and facing the Q1 fight on Saturday.
