Brands BSB: McConnell powers to Superstock 1000 win

Billy McConnell snatched the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 series lead after another faultless win in today’s 24-lap scrap.

The Aussie had to contend with yesterday’s winner, Andy Reid, early on after the EHA Racing Aprilia man took the lead at the first corner from pole.

Reid’s lead wasn’t to be, however, after McConnell slid underneath at Paddock Hill Bend on lap two, never to be troubled again as he began to extend a lead over Reid, with a three rider train of Keith Farmer, Josh Elliot and Chrissy Rouse just behind.

But Farmer’s charge into second was over just as soon as it began as his Tyco BMW suffered a technical fault, which took the former Superstock 1000 champ out of race contention.

While Buildbase Suzuki’s McConnell continued to run away at the front, Quinnstheprinters.com BMW’s Rouse levered 2015 Stock 1000 champ Elliott aside at Paddock Hill, before making the same move on Reid just two laps later to slot into second place.

The Geordie then set out reeling in McConnell, cutting his gap to just over a second as he set the fastest lap of the race, 0.029s off Ian Hutchinson’s lap record from last season.

But McConnell found just enough extra pace to hold off the Newcastle University student as he crossed the line for his second win of the season after his double-header win at Donington, while yesterday’s winner Reid bagged third.
